Getting ready for MAD

What's the story: am I moving to DC? It depends on who asks. Right now half of my stuff is riding on a truck with my husband and younger son on its way to a 19th century row house at the convergence of DuPont Circle, Adams Morgan and U Street . After a family vacation someplace warm, we will be arriving in person mid-January, just in time for the Inauguration. Am I moving there? Yes and no. I'll be there at least half the time, and the other part I'll spend working in Buffalo.

This move has been in the works for almost a year. When I first thought of moving to DC I wondered what I would do there, removed from the community I have lived and worked in for 35 years. I also wondered how long it would take to see all of the area's museums at the rate of one a day. So here is Museum A Day (MAD) in the District. The days will only be those when I am in residence.

There are the usual suspects to visit: Smithsonians, National Gallery of Art, the Newseum and the Phillips. And then there are the less well known: Jewish Military, Textile, Cryptology. I'll try to get to them all and let you know what I like, what I don't and why. Join me for these excursions and see how many days the museums last. Don't forget, there are new ones opening all the time.

Museum suggestions please!
